Transforming a Bathroom with Leftover Paints: A Bold DIY Project by Iced Tulips Interiors

Take a look at the attached photo to see the incredible finished product. The visual impact truly captures the essence of this creative transformation.

At Iced Tulips Interiors, creativity and resourcefulness are at the heart of every project. One of my favorite transformations involved using leftover paints to create a stunning, custom-painted look in a bathroom. The result was a space that not only felt fresh and modern but also became a showstopper for guests. Here’s how I did it.

The Vision

The idea was to hand-paint a plaid pattern on the bathroom walls and ceiling using the leftover paints I had: red, green, various shades of blue, gray, and black. I wanted a look that was bold yet cohesive, with an artistic flair that would make the bathroom stand out.

Creating the Plaid Pattern

  1. Preparation: The first step was preparing the walls and ceiling. I cleaned and primed them to ensure the paint would adhere well.

  2. Embracing Imperfection: Instead of meticulously measuring and marking every line, I decided to embrace the imperfect, hand-painted look. This choice added a unique, artistic touch to the bathroom, highlighting the craftsmanship behind the design.

  3. Painting the Stripes: I started with the lightest shade of blue as the base, painting horizontal and vertical stripes across the walls and ceiling. Once the base layer dried, I added the other colors, layering them to create the plaid effect. The red, green, gray, and black stripes were added next, carefully overlapping them to achieve the desired pattern. The slight variations and imperfections in the lines added character and charm to the space.

Satin Finish for the Vanity and Trim

To tie the room together, I chose one of the shades of blue in a satin finish to paint the vanity and trim work. This not only complemented the plaid pattern but also added a touch of elegance and cohesion to the space. The satin finish provided a slight sheen, enhancing the overall look without being too glossy.

Updating the Countertop and Sink

The existing countertop and sink were in good condition but looked outdated. Instead of replacing them, I opted for a more economical and eco-friendly solution: white tub and tile paint. This paint is specifically designed for surfaces like countertops and sinks, providing a durable and fresh finish. The bright white color contrasted beautifully with the bold plaid pattern, making the bathroom look clean and modern.

Installing a Modern Pendant Light

Lighting can make or break a room, and for this bathroom, I chose a modern pendant light with a reflective surface. The light fixture acted almost like a disco ball, casting intriguing patterns of light around the room. This not only added a fun element but also enhanced the overall ambiance, making the bathroom feel vibrant and lively.

Adding Bold Artwork

To complete the look, I accentuated the space with bold artwork. The artwork added personality and a splash of color, complementing the plaid pattern and tying the room together. Each piece was carefully selected to enhance the custom-painted look and add a touch of sophistication.

The Show-Stopping Result

The transformation was nothing short of spectacular. The custom-painted plaid pattern on the walls and ceiling, the updated vanity and trim in satin blue, the fresh white countertop and sink, the modern pendant light, and the bold artwork all came together to create a bathroom that was truly unique. It became a showstopper, impressing every guest who saw it.
