Last October, my friend Debby and I embarked on an adventure to the Round Top Antiques Fair. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure, Round Top, Texas, is a small town with a big heart—and an even bigger antiques fair. It's a paradise for antique lovers, interior designers, and anyone who appreciates a good treasure hunt.
First Stop: Merritt Meat Company
After a scenic drive, our first stop was the Merritt Meat Company. We were greeted by the heavenly aroma of pulled pork that immediately made our stomachs rumble in anticipation. Debby and I devoured the most delicious pulled pork sandwiches—succulent, smoky, and oh-so-satisfying. It was the perfect fuel for a day of shopping and exploring.
Antiquing Heaven: Round Top Antiques and Design Center
Our next destination was the Round Top Antiques and Design Center. This place is a dream for anyone who loves vintage finds. We meandered through aisles filled with unique furniture, quirky knick-knacks, and gorgeous decor items from various eras. I found a beautifully worn leather armchair that would add a perfect touch of character to any reading nook. Debby, on the other hand, was drawn to a stunning antique sink that reminded her of her days remodeling historic homes with her husband. The look in her eyes said it all—nostalgia mixed with a touch of wistfulness for the times they spent restoring houses to their original glory.
Whimsy and Wonders: Southern Beasts
If you’re ever in Round Top, a visit to Southern Beasts is an absolute must. This quirky shop showcases whimsical animal sculptures and art pieces made from vintage textiles. Each piece tells a story, and the creativity on display is nothing short of inspiring. Debby and I spent ages admiring the playful creations, each one more delightful than the last.
Artistic Treasures: Melissa’s Art Shop
Our final stop was Melissa’s Art Shop, a haven of vibrant, eclectic art pieces that instantly lifted our spirits. The shop was a joyful explosion of color and creativity, with every corner showcasing something unique. I recall being particularly taken with a beautiful collection of candles, each one more enchanting than the last. While browsing, I stumbled upon a giant coffee table book on herbs, which I knew would be the perfect gift for my mom, an avid gardener. Debby, meanwhile, was tempted by some of the smaller, vibrant pieces that would make fantastic additions to her already colorful home.
